66-year-old man struck, killed crossing Route 173 in Antioch

The pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing Route 173 in Antioch Monday night, was a 66-year-old man, authorities said Tuesday. However, after the car switched lanes, the pedestrian suddenly appeared in front of the vehicle and was struck, authorities said. The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later, officials from the Lake County Coroner's Office said. Route 173 was closed for several hours while Antioch police and members of the Lake County major Crash Assistance Team investigated the accident. Police said the man was crossing the busy roadway in front of Wal-Mart Superstore at 5:15 p.m. when he was struck by a Ford sedan traveling east.

Pedestrian identified in Antioch fatal crash

A pedestrian struck and killed by a car Monday in Antioch has been identified by police as Daniel R. Reick, 66, authorities said Wednesday. Reick, of Antioch, was crossing Route 173 carrying a shovel at 5:15 p.m. when he was hit by a Ford sedan traveling east, Antioch police Cmdr. The driver changed lanes away from the median, but Reick appeared in front of his car after he switched lanes, Moritz said. The investigation shows the driver of the sedan saw Reick standing on the middle median, Moritz said. Moritz said Reick was walking from the nearby Wal-Mart parking lot to his vehicle, which had become stuck in ice in the parking lot of the Aldi grocery store located directly across the road.

Dan was a friend of mine,he would do anything without question if o e need help. Rt 173 is horrible and barely anyone obeys the speed limit,if you we're to look up any accident reports there are many all over 173 I drive a large vehicle and have been almost hit many times,badgered by the truckers, almost like a threat it needs to be monitored.
