Baltimore car accidents cause more injury, death, and economic loss than any other crime or civic issue
Motor vehicle accidents are a common occurrence in Baltimore and across Baltimore County. Many crashes are completely avoidable, caused by drunk drivers or distracted drivers. Whatever the cause, car accidents are a major safety and economic issue for the Baltimore community.
Get information on car crashes from the Baltimore Police Department
The Baltimore Police Department offers information on accidents, and also provides information on filing a police report and on obtaining a police report. Maryland's Department of Motor Vehicles provides information on traffic and safety laws.
When someone is injured in a Baltimore car crash, what needs to happen next?
In an injury accident, it is crucial to get appropriate medical treatment, regardless of the financial cost.
The major hospitals in the area include:
As soon as possible, an injured person should contact their insurance company to find out medical treatment is covered under their insurance policy.
When a car accident is serious or fatal, it is crucial to find a Baltimore auto accident lawyer
When an injury is serious or a death occurs, the next step is to find an experienced Baltimore personal injury attorney to start the financial recovery process by launching an insurance claim. Major injury or wrongful death claims are complicated and difficult to manage. Having a personal injury lawyer on board is a great relief to injured people, or to the family left behind when an accident proves fatal.

Preventing tragic crashes in Maryland
Hi Dina, Your concern and sympathy for those injured and killed on Maryland roads sound like someone who has been personally touched by these all too often tragic events. We share your disappointment and frustration at the slow pace of change in Maryland laws designed to protect innocent and usually random victims from the consequences of drunk and drugged driving and those crashes caused by distracted drivers who are too busy looking at their cellphones to recognize the peril in which they are placing all who drive. There are organizations in Maryland working hard to change things. Your assistance could make a difference. MADD has for years backed legislation to impose considerably tougher sentencing for those who drive drunk or drugged. Just this year an initiative of MADD's now will require the placing of an ignition interlock in all vehicles of anyone convicted of a drunk driving offense. This simple act alone has been shown to reduce traffic deaths in the states that have passed similar laws by 35%. MADD has worked to make drunk driving subject to punitive damages, permit bar and social hosts who over-serve patrons or guests and then allow them to drive away (known as dram shop law) to be sued for their negligence in contributing to a crash (not presently allowed in Maryland, though it is allowed in most states) and other tough on crime legislation dealing with traffic safety. The Maryland Association for Justice (the trial lawyers lobby) has also taken a strong stand with victims to allow greater justice for these crimes. The State Police is conducting frequent sobriety checkpoints and other actions and publicity about their efforts in an attempt to put a lid on bad behavior that leads to crashes. There are a lot of people who care about these issues. We work hard each legislative session to make changes, but too often they are met with industry (tavern owners lobbyists) backlash. We will continue to try. You can help. People like you are the means by which we can change the laws to protect the innocent lives lost or impaired by these terrible crashes. Please join with MADD and other victims advocacy groups to make a real difference. Thank you for your interest in this field. You can contact me personally at 410.821.6800 to learn more. Keith S.
