According to a FHP report, Small was driving a Nissan Altima eastbound and entered the left-hand turn lane and turned into the prison’s entrance. However, Small failed to see Fenne’s Harley-Davidson and turned into the motorcycle’s path.
A Leesburg motorcyclist was killed early Tuesday morning in Sumter County when a car allegedly turned in front of him, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
David R. Fenne, 50, died at Leesburg Regional Medical Center. The other driver, Carmen Berneatha Small, 55, of Coleman, was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries.
The crash occurred about 6:40 a.m. Tuesday on County Road 470, just in front of the Federal Correctional Complex.
According to a FHP report, Small was driving a Nissan Altima eastbound and entered the left-hand turn lane and turned into the prison’s entrance. However, Small failed to see Fenne’s Harley-Davidson and turned into the motorcycle’s path.
Fenne was thrown from the bike, the FHP report adds.
The crash remains under investigation.
