State Police Say Fatal Motorcycle Crash is Still Under Investigation
“She crossed over the center line and hit the motorcyclist head on, so what the contributing factors were, we are still trying to determine that. That’s why it is still under investigation. We try to look at all different angles and different possibilities,” says Captain Eric Dayley, Idaho State Police.
The fatal crash occurred when Joanne Christofferson, 29, was driving eastbound on US30 when she crossed the centerline into the westbound lane and crashed into a Harley Davidson driven by Staci Shryrock, 44, also of Pocatello. Shryrock was pronounced deceased at the crash site. Christofferson was taken to Portneuf Medical Center. As of Saturday, Christofferson was arrested and held at the Bannock County Jail.
What every family needs to know about wrongful death claims:
When someone dies as the result of an accident, family members must make many decisions, and a wrongful death claim often needs to be filed. Often a claim can be filed only by certain family members, and there are strict requirements and deadlines that must be met. It is critically important to speak with a wrongful death attorney to get information on a victim’s rights and options. Click here to learn more.
Why every fatality from a crash is not legally a wrongful death
After someone dies in a motor-vehicle accident, grieving family members and friends are often left with many questions. What caused the accident? Could it have been avoided? What do they do now that their loved one is gone?
Sometimes a fatal collision happens through no one's fault. Crashes caused by weather and road conditions, or by wildlife in the roadway, are examples. But when a fatal crash is caused by negligence, then family members should pursue a wrongful death claim, to uphold the victim's rights and begin the financial recovery process.
