Fleming and the girl were in critical condition at Carolinas Medical Center. The driver of the other car, Heffeman, was also seriously injured and was taken to the hospital.

Troopers with the NC Highway Patrol say one person was killed in a vehicle crash in Union County Wednesday afternoon.

The incident was reported at 5:27 p.m. on Rocky River Road South, according to the NC Highway Patrol.
