Badass mom delivers her own baby boy on I-5 in North Seattle

Somebody was in an extra rush during Seattle's Friday morning rush hour.

After a woman went into labor 6 weeks early this morning, she and her husband raced along I-5 to make it to the hospital, but their son was apparently bored with this idea and decided to just go for it. While multiple news outlets report that the baby came so quickly that the father, Michael Tilton, delivered his son while driving, it turns out that this it not true, and the truth is way better. According to a public post made on Facebook by the dad, the laboring mom, Jessie Cordova, delivered her own baby in the passenger seat.

Tilton-Cordova baby

I find it amazing when a woman delivers her own baby while stationary, so clearly this lady is on another level. She caught her spanking-new son on the southbound I-5 express lanes. According to the Washington Department of Transportation, the freshly minted parents then made their way to a Mercer Street off ramp, where they were met by medics. Both the northbound and southbound ramps were shut down as medics attended to mother and baby. Traffic was moving again and the family was on their way to the hospital by 7 a.m.

Baby is doing great, mom is healthy, and dad is clearly losing his mind with happiness. Hopefully anyone who was late to a meeting or missed a flight this morning will see story this and maybe not mind so much. Congrats to the Tilton-Cordova family!
