Britax recalls over 200,000 car seats after Facebook user points out safety flaw

Last last week, major car seat manufacturer Britax announced that it is voluntarily recalling 37 models of its car seats due to a potential safety defect that could prevent the harnesses from locking. While the safety issue was first highlighted by a Consumer Reports safety notice in March, it wasn't until last month when a Facebook post by a customer went viral that Britax sprang into action, recalling over 200,000 car seats. On Thursday, Britax said that seat models Advocate ClickTight, Boulevard ClickTight, and Marathon ClickTight manufactured between Aug. 1, 2014, and July 29, 2015, may have a defective harness adjuster button that stays in the "release" position when the harness is tightened. As you can imagine, car seats with this defect are completely useless, since a car seat is, at base, a contraption to keep your baby harnessed.  Britax's announcement reassures customers that the company "confirmed the performance" of ClickTight seats with NHTSA but had neverletheless gone forward with the recall, emailing all registered owners of the car seat to warn them of the potential problem. So far, no one has reported an injury from the defect, according to Britax. Customers with the affected car seats will be sent a lubricant than can be applied to the red harness adjuster, which is apparently all that's needed to fix a potentially life-threatening flaw. News of this recall proves that not only is complaining to corporate a fun hobby, it's also the best way to hold companies accountable for their faulty products. Britax was unmoved by Consumer Reports' warnings about the harness, but when an actual consumer made a stink on Facebook, they found a solution awfully quick.  Is My Britax Car Seat Affected by the Recall?
