Get out of here, fun-haters! Why the Fast and Furious movies aren't safety concerns

I have a lot of friends who roll their eyes at the thought of going to see America’s current top movie at the box office, Furious 7. Not coincidentally, I have a lot of friends who are BORING! For some reason, these holier-than-thou types are denying the appeal of these fantastic popcorn flicks. People like to act like their tastes are too refined to enjoy the sight of Tyrese and Paul Walker jumping a car onto a yacht.

To these fun-hating snobs I say, “Have fun watching Melancholia again! I’m going to go watch Vin Diesel drive a car out of a burning plane!”

Fun fact: the airport runway in this Fast and Furious 6 scene would realistically need to be 18.5 miles long in order for this chase scene to occur. Guess who cares...not me! My endearing lack of snobbery aside, though, you might be surprised at my love for the insanity that is the Fast and Furious franchise because they don’t display safe driving practices. After all, this is Accident Data Center, and I’m the resident buzzkill. Why would someone who is so concerned about car seat safety and distracted teen driving be a fan of films that popularize ridiculous stunts? Well, because they are completely ridiculous, and I’m not really worried about people attempting to emulate them. I feel safe in assuming that people will not attempt to jump out of a speeding car and over a bridge in order to catch a woman in mid-air over a canyon who has just been vaulted off of a tank, in the same manner that I’m not concerned there will be a rash of incidents of people flexing their way out of casts in order to be more like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

The Fast and Furious films are tons of fun, feature a diverse cast, and they pass the Bechdel Test. Plus, Vin Diesel posts hilariously uplifting fan art on his Facebook page, and I love him. Don’t be a fun-hater who pretends to enjoy Harmony Korine movies. Do yourself a favor by turning off your logical brain, order some popcorn, and go see Furious 7. Haven't you had enough of reality?

Disclaimer: Accident Data Center does not endorse jumping a car from one skyscraper to another.
