Two people hurt after rescue unit crash Friday.

Two people were hurt after a fire department rescue unit crashed into another vehicle Friday morning.

Two people were hurt after a fire department rescue unit crashed into another vehicle Friday morning.

The wreck happened about 7:30am CT on 6th Avenue South and 8th Street in Birmingham.

The rescue unit was transporting a child to the hospital, when the unit collided with a City of Birmingham public works truck.

One firefighter and one public works worker were injured.

Both were transported to UAB Hospital with neck and back pains.

The child, a 3 month old baby, was later transported to Children’s and died at the hospital.

An official believes the child’s death is not related to the crash.
