Man dead on scene after high-speed crash in Birmingham

A 39-year-old man was found dead Monday after a car crashed in east Birmingham. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:03 p.m. Authorities said the Mercury Mountaineer was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control, veered off the road and struck a utility police. The crash happened at 1:35 p.m. in the 7900 block of First Avenue North. The crash remains under investigation by Birmingham police.
