Family, city councilor call for deeper investigation into fatal motorcycle wreck

A Birmingham City Councilor is calling for more investigation into the death of a young man killed in a motorcycle wreck this weekend. The coroner identified the victim of the motorcycle crash as Kaylan Perry, 21, of Fairfield. Birmingham City Councilor Sheila Tyson said she is disturbed by what she's seen and is calling on police to not "brush this under the rug." She is standing with the family who claims the men who hit Perry Sunday are the same ones who beat him during a football game last week. Police say they won't be filing charges against the person driving the car that hit and killed 21-year old Kaylan Perry.

Police investigating fatal crash in Birmingham

“Our preliminary investigation believes the accident was a result of the car and motorcycle driving at a high rate of speed,” said Lt. Edwards of the Birmingham police. “There is a strong indication that both vehicles were racing.”

Two males driving a red vehicle fled the scene on foot after their car was involved in the crash, however, one person was taken into custody soon after.

Motorcyclist killed in Sunday crash identified

The Jefferson County Coroner’s office confirmed that 24-year-old Fairfield resident Kaylen Kamonta Perry was killed at 2:40 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4 when a Mercury sedan struck his motorcycle, causing it to crash into a power pole outside of Paul Pierce Body Shop.
