12-year-old Phenix City boy dies in a motorcycle accident

The family of a 12-year-old boy is now mourning his death. Christopher Haywood passed away Friday, June 27 at around 1:15 p.m. following a motorcycle accident.

The family of a 12-year-old boy is now mourning his death. Christopher Haywood passed away Friday, June 27 at around 1:15 p.m. following a motorcycle accident.

According to Russell County Deputy Coroner Lawman Davis, the cause of death appears to be blunt force trauma to the head.

Davis said the accident happened on Bay View Drive, and the 24-year-old motorcycle driver was taken to the Midtown Medical Center in Columbus. Davis explained the driver told authorities there was a problem with the throttle.

Haywood's body will be sent to Montgomery for an autopsy Monday at the Department of Forensic Sciences.

This case is an on-going investigation, and News Leader 9 will update the story as soon as new details become available.
