1 killed in log truck, van wreck in Athens

  One person was killed in a wreck on U.S. Highway 31 and Huntsville-Browns Ferry Road in Athens on Tuesday afternoon. Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson said the wreck involved a log truck and a cargo van. The driver of the cargo van died and the driver of the log truck was flown to Huntsville Hospital. Northbound traffic is being diverted on Nuclear Plant Road and southbound traffic is being diverted onto Huntsville Browns-Ferry Road as crews work to remove logs from the road.

1 killed, 1 injured in Limestone County log truck crash

One person was killed and another injured Tuesday afternoon in a crash involving a log truck in Limestone County. Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson said that the crash occurred on U.S. 31 at Huntsville-Browns Ferry Road. Southbound traffic is being diverted onto Huntsville-Browns Ferry Road. Northbound traffic is being diverted onto Nuclear Plant Road, Johnson said. The roadway was shut down as investigators work the scene and workers attempt to remove the logs from the area.

UPDATE: Police identify driver killed in Athens wreck

68-year-old John Lawson Oden of Somerville was driving the log truck and was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital.
