Crash kills woman, 84

The impact was so severe the Ford Fusion was knocked off the roadway into a concrete culvert, coming to a stop near the white fence surrounding Deibert Park.

A Lexington woman was killed and a man injured in a two-car wreck Tuesday morning.
Wilodean Burks Watkins, 84, 2842 Lauderdale 39, Lexington, died from injuries sustained in the accident, Florence police Sgt. Chris Ticer said.
Watkins was taken to Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to hospital officials.
Watkins' husband, Floyd Elbert Watkins, 86, was driving the 2010 Ford Fusion and was not reported as injured.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 2009 Ford Ranger, was identified as Joe Bob Taylor, 76, 110 James Court, Florence. He also was taken to ECM.
Hospital spokesman Tom Whetstone said Taylor was admitted and listed in good condition.
Ticer said the accident occurred at 9:36 a.m. at Darby Drive and Cox Creek Parkway.
"The Watkinses were traveling south on Lauderdale 47 and crossing Cox Creek onto Darby Drive when the accident happened," Ticer said.
Taylor was traveling east on Cox Creek Parkway.
