Emergency personnel said the wreck was reported at 7:40 a.m. The accident happened just north of the Mount Springs Drive intersection on Alabama 247 in Colbert County.

Smith, a Red Bay resident, was driving a 2007 Ford Explorer when it left the roadway and struck a tree. Smith and Dees, of Vina, were pronounced dead at the scene.
