Crash that killed University of Montevallo student from Foley under investigation

The Loxley Police Department is continuing to investigate the Monday afternoon crash that killed a University of Montevallo student from Foley. Loxley Police Department Lt. Raymond Lovell said the crash that killed Rachel Pigott happened at about 3 p.m. on Monday on Alabama Highway 59 just south of Stapleton in Baldwin County. "As of right now we don't know anything else about the wreck except we have several witnesses that said she ran straight off the road and flipped several times and was ejected," Lovell said. Pigott was not wearing a seat belt.
Pigott was airlifted to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Florida, where she died on arrival. Authorities report that road conditions were dry at the time. Pigott was returning to the University of Montevallo at the time of the crash.
