Rod Bramblett and Paula Bramblett killed in collision on Shug Jordan Parkway in Auburn, Alabama

Police say the Brambletts were in a 2017 Toyota Highlander that was hit from behind by a 16-year-old male driver in a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Bramblett was a three-time Alabama Sportscaster of the Year. His most famous call came on the “Kick Six” play in the Iron Bowl game against rival Alabama in 2013.

The following is a statement from Auburn Athletics on the death of radio announcer Rod Bramblett and his wife Paula in a car wreck last night.

According to the Auburn Police Dept. report, the teenage boy told officers he fell asleep while driving and did not remember what happened. His name was not released in the report. 

Per Alabama Criminal Code 12-15-204; Taylor was charged as an adult and taken into custody at his residence in Auburn on Monday. Taylor was booked into the Lee County Detention Facility where he posted a $50,000 bond and was released.

16-year-old Johnston Taylor was out on bond after being arrested in connection to the deaths of Rod and Paula Bramblett. Now, the Lee County District Attorney’s Office is asking a judge to revoke his bond, based on traffic citiations Taylor has received since the deadly crash.

Taylor will not be allowed to leave the rehab facility until he completes treatment. If he does leave it will be considered escape. When treatment is complete, Taylor will be brought back to the jail.
