Deadly wreck causing major delays on I-85 NB near Wire Road (Exit 42)

Alabama State Troopers say one person is dead after a two-vehicle wreck that happened exactly one mile before the Wire Road exit on Interstate 85. Compounding the traffic situation are the throngs of Auburn and Alabama fans commuting to Auburn ahead of Saturday's Iron Bowl.

I-85 NB reopens after fatal crash near Wire Road

Photos from the scene showed a blue Toyota truck on its side in the ditch in front of the Wire Road exit sign. The crash created major gridlock starting at the sign that indicates Wire Road (Exit 42) is one mile ahead. Alabama State Troopers say one person was killed in the two-vehicle wreck one mile before the Wire Road exit. This is looking south in the NB lanes near Tuskegee. A medical helicopter lands just beyond the wreck site on I-85 NB. A silver SUV was also involved in the collision.  A blue pickup truck sits overturned in the ditch on I-85 NB. 

Phenix City man killed in I-85 crash

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Willie Lee Johnson, 86, was killed when the 2015 Nissan Rogue he was driving left the roadway and hit a 2006 Toyota Tundra that was parked on the shoulder.
