Nicholas Bishop, 24, critically injured, transported to hospital, after his motorcycle collides head-on with a car, driven by Alex Phelan, 24, on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway in Anchorage.
Motorcyclist Critically Injured in Palmer Collision.
Late Sunday evening Alaska State Troopers started fielding 911 calls about a motorcyclist driving recklessly along the Palmer-Wasilla Highway near Trunk Road.
About five minutes after the calls started, there was a head-on collision at 10:25 p.m. between a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle driven by Nicholas Bishop, 24 of Anchorage, and a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Alex Phelan, 24 of Wasilla.
The motorcycle was traveling westbound along the highway near North Plymouth Circle, attempting to pass multiple vehicles in a no-passing zone, according to troopers. Near a corner Bishop collided head on with the Grand Am driven by Phelan; the car then hit a 2009 Chevrolet truck.
Bishop was unconscious and unresponsive when troopers arrived. He was transported on a LifeMed helicopter to Providence Alaska Medical Center. Troopers describe Bishop's injuries as life-threatening, and a Providence spokesperson said Monday at noon that he is still in critical condition.
Phelan suffered a minor cut, and the driver of the truck was uninjured.
An investigation by the Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol is ongoing.
