One pedestrian is dead and another is critically wounded following a car accident in Glendale involving a police officer responding to a call, officials said.

One pedestrian is dead and another is critically wounded following a car accident in Glendale involving a police officer responding to a call, officials said.

The accident happened Saturday afternoon as the Glendale police officer was responding to a non-emergency call while driving on 67th Avenue in the area of Glendale Avenue, according to the Glendale Police Department.

Police said the officer was not using the emergency lights because the call was a non-emergency incident.

The collision is still under investigation but the Glendale Police Department said the initial report is that a white van made a left turn in front of the officer.

The impact sent the van onto the sidewalk on the southwest corner of the intersection, where it struck the pedestrians.

Police said one of the pedestrians was thrown into a nearby parking lot and was hit by a different vehicle.

A female pedestrian was killed and a male pedestrian is critically injured, police said. The officer was not seriously injured.
