A Glendale police officer and a child were each taken to a hospital after the car the child was riding in collided with the Glendale officer’s car Tuesday morning, according to Glendale police.

The officer was responding to another collision on Tuesday near 51st and Northern avenues when the wreck occurred, said a Glendale police spokeswoman.
Glendale officers were in the area directing traffic to avoid a collision that had occurred early Tuesday morning when a Jeep SUV was trying to turn northbound from a private drive on to 51st Avenue at about 7:45 a.m., police said.
The SUV failed to yield and hit the Glendale police squad car as it crossed the center line.
The officer involved in the wreck was taken to a hospital for precautionary reasons, police said, along with a child who was riding in the SUV at the time of the collision
