Car crash statistics in Mesa, Arizona, and across Maricopa County highlight a significant number of traffic incidents each year. Maricopa County is one of the most populated regions in Arizona, contributing to a high volume of accidents. In recent years, the Arizona Department of Transportation has reported thousands of crashes, with a notable percentage involving serious injuries and fatalities. Mesa, being one of the larger cities in the county, experiences a considerable share of these incidents, often linked to factors such as speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving.

Drunk driving remains a serious issue in Arizona, contributing to a significant number of traffic crashes and fatalities each year. According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, alcohol-related crashes consistently account for a notable portion of the state’s traffic incidents. In 2022, alcohol was a factor in over 25% of fatal crashes statewide. Despite Arizona's strict DUI laws, including harsh penalties for impaired drivers, the state continues to face challenges in reducing the number of drunk driving incidents. Many of these crashes result in severe injuries or death, disproportionately affecting both urban areas like Phoenix and more rural parts of the state.

Arizona has several organizations and government agencies dedicated to combating drunk driving and supporting victims of impaired driving crashes. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Arizona is a leading nonprofit working to prevent drunk driving and provide assistance to affected families (MADD Arizona). The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) plays a crucial role in DUI enforcement and public awareness campaigns across the state (GOHS). Additionally, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) Arizona offers resources for those struggling with alcohol addiction, which can help reduce impaired driving incidents (AA Arizona). These organizations work collectively to address the dangers of impaired driving in Arizona.
