The northbound lanes of I-17 were closed at Camelback Road until about 8:15 a.m. and caused delays through much of the morning rush hour.

Man to enter plea in wrong-way fatal freeway accident

A 39-year-old Phoenix man is to enter a plea to multiple felony charges stemming from a wrong-way freeway accident in which a fire department dispatcher was fatally injured.

Stephen Martin update: Man to enter plea in wrong-way deadly freeway accident

Stephen B. Martin is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Maricopa County Superior Court. He faces charges of second-degree murder, endangerment and possession of marijuana and of drug paraphernalia.
Lange was returning home from work at about 1:00am and was northbound on I-17 when a wrong-way driver drove around a police car that was attempting to stop him and collided with her vehicle. Lange was then transported to the hospital and pronounced dead that afternoon. The 39-year-old male wrong-way driver and his passenger, a 38-year-old woman sustained minor injuries as well as the driver of another car that was swiped in the collision. It is unknown if alcohol played a roll in the crash. Check back for updates.
