Gordon Russel Carter, 58, killed, and Newton Lagrone, 21, and Ouida F. Carter, 60, injured in crash on Arkansas 35 near Monticello, Arkansas

A Monticello man died Thursday after the vehicle he was a passenger in was struck in a two-vehicle crash in Drew County, according to an Arkansas State Police report. Thursday when he crossed the centerline into the path of a westbound 2012 Toyota Yaris driven by 60-year-old Ouida F. Carter of Monticello, state police said. The death was the 435th in a crash in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures. The driver of a 2009 Ford Focus, 21-year-old Newton Lagrone of Monticello, was traveling east on Arkansas 35 about 3:29 p.m. Gordon Russel Carter, 58, a passenger in the Yaris, was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.
