William J. Smith, 42, dies in rear-end crash on Hempstead County Road 52 near Hope, Arkansas

A 42-year-old Hope man died after his vehicle was hit from behind and then overturned Wednesday morning near Hope, authorities said. It wasn't clear what caused the collision. Smith died at the scene. Arkansas State Police say William J. Smith was driving a 1997 Jeep west on the highway when the vehicle was struck from behind by a westbound 2002 Dodge pickup. It happened shortly after 10:45 a.m. on Hempstead County Road 52 about 5 miles east of Hope.
