The California Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 46 and Rowlee Road.

The California Highway Patrol said the victim, identified by the Kern County Coroner as Jose Ayala Alfaro, 62, was westbound on Highway 46 just east of Rowlee Road about 2:30 a.m. when a car driven by Ramiro Maya 22 came up from behind and struck Alfaro's van, knocking it out of control and into a power pole.
