Biplane crashes in California mountains; 1 confirmed dead

Ian Gregor of the FAA said Wednesday that a search crew located the downed Pitts biplane east of Lebec, a mountain community in southwest Kern County between Bakersfield and Los Angeles. Gregor said he had no more details.

Officials said that a plane is currently two days overdue and debris were found in the area according to a spokesperson for the Kern County Fire Department.

Authorities are on the scene of a biplane crash in a Southern California mountain range that took the life of at least one person. What caused the crash was not immediately known. More details will be posted as they become available.
