3 farm workers killed, 5 hurt in van crash in California

Authorities say three farmworkers were killed and five others hospitalized after a van overturned on a Central California highway. Lopez said the van was heading east on the highway between Los Banos and Chowchilla when it drifted off the roadway. Jesse Lopez said the victims were riding in a Chevrolet van, returning from a day of working in the fields, when the crash occurred on State Route 152 in Merced County. The cause of the crash was under investigation.

Franco; Antonia Sandoval, 62; a 17-year-old boy; a 16-year-old girl; and an unidentified woman were taken to area hospitals. Officers said it appeared that only the 17-year-old was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.  

3 farmworkers killed in Merced County crash identified

Officers confirmed that six people were ejected from the van, including the three women who died at the scene.  
Three people died at the scene and five were taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries. The CHP said at least one of the survivors appeared to have major injuries.
