A 43-year-old man disappeared Monday after crashing a vehicle on a Highway 99 offramp, leaving an injured woman in his car, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Investigators are looking for a man they identified as Alfredo Ventura, according to CHP Officer Moises Onsurez.

Ventura was the suspected driver of a black 1998 Ford Explorer heading north about 7:30 p.m. Monday on Highway 99, the CHP said.

Ventura was traveling with 34-year-old Maria Silva, the CHP said, describing her as his ex-wife. The pair apparently was being chased by another driver, described by officers as Ventura’s “current girlfriend.”

The nature of the apparent dispute could not be confirmed, and the girlfriend’s identity was not available Tuesday.

Ventura’s vehicle took the Franklin Drive exit from Highway 99, and he lost control of the vehicle, which flipped at least once and landed on its roof in a nearby field, the CHP said.

Ventura fled the crash on foot and remained at large Tuesday. A physical description of the suspect was not available at press time Tuesday.

Silva suffered numerous cuts and bruises in the crash and was treated at a nearby hospital.
