Five people sustain injuries when police helicopter crash-lands in forest near Azusa, California
The crash occurred at 4:58 p.m. near the San Gabriel Reservoir, which is near Highway 39 and East Fork Road near Azusa.
The Times reported that the green Air Rescue 5 helicopter was responding to a call for service in the area at the time of the crash.
All six of the crew members were said to have been extricated, and Los Angeles County Fire reported that one of the members was said to be in critical condition, two suffered moderate injuries and two suffered minor injuries.
A sixth occupant, a UCLA doctor, was also onboard for a ride-along and was uninjured in the accident. The five deputies were rushed to a nearby trauma center where they are all expected to recover.
"They're pretty banged up, some of them, and I'll leave it at there's some fractures, some broken ribs, and some things of that nature," Villanueva said. "But thankfully nothing that is life-threatening at this time, and they're in good hands here."
