The crash was reported at 2:55 a.m., just south of Diamond Bar Boulevard, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Tony Polizzi.

The first crash was reported at 2:55 a.m., just south of Diamond Bar Boulevard, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Tony Polizzi.  No injuries were reported in the initial crash, but the driver of a black car then slammed into a tow truck that responded to remove one of the damaged vehicles.     

2 Costa Mesa residents killed in chain of crashes on 57 Freeway

The Costa Mesa residents had been riding in the Corolla southbound on the 57 Freeway when the male 28-year-old driver unexpectedly “veered to the right and struck the left rear of the flatbed tow truck,” CHP officer B. Meddaugh said in the report.
