Los Angeles police say the driver was fleeing the scene of a street takeover event a few miles away that officers had just broken up. LAPD officers were following the suspect from a helicopter but did not describe it as an official police pursuit.

It is worth noting that the suspect is identified as Carrillo-Castaneda, but is charged under Luis Carrillocastane, as he is listed in the Sheriff’s Department’s Inmate Information Center website.

NBC4 reported that the SUV driver was previously taking part in a nearby street takeover, doing doughnuts in the middle of an intersection, and crashed into the building at a high speed while being followed by a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter overhead.
