Washington man dies in solo crash near Big Sur
A 54-year-old man from Washington state died Tuesday when his 2016 Nissan crashed into a dirt embankment on Highway 1 north of Big Sur, the California Highway Patrol said.
At 4:10 p.m., the Newcastle, Washington, resident was driving a red Nissan Altima southbound at an unknown speed just north of the Granite Canyon Bridge when the car drifted off the western edge of the road and hit the dirt embankment. The driver, whose name the CHP is withholding pending notification of his family, died at the scene of the crash.
