Downed tree leads to fatal crash in Monterey
One person was killed Friday morning when a car ran into a downed tree near Skyline Drive and Wyndemere Way, Monterey police said.
Officers were dispatched to the incident at 6:05 a.m. and arrived to find a single vehicle that had struck a downed tree that had fallen perpendicular across the roadway.
According to the Mercury News, the driver was Mary Francis, a 61-year-old middle school teacher in San Jose who lived in Monterey. Francis was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
