On Saturday night before 9 p.m., 19-year-old David Rivas Jr. was driving in a car with passenger Jorge Talavera, 19. While going around a large downhill curve, Rivas lost control of the vehicle on Overlook Parkway near Golden Star Avenue in Riverside, causing the car to jump the curb and crash into a tree. Rivas died at the scene. Talavera was in critical condition as of Sunday. Speed appears to have been a factor. Talavera was a 2014 graduate of King High in Riverside. Rivas was a senior scheduled to graduate from Notre Dame High in Riverside in May.
