Officer Ryan Railsback said that the boy was traveling east on Magnolia Avenue in the truck when for unknown reasons the pickup veered from the roadway and struck a pole.

He died at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Riverside about an hour after the crash, according to a news release from the Riverside County Coroner's Office.
