The California Highway Patrol Auburn division said a Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound on Foresthill Road when it went into the opposite late and crashed directly into an Acura MDX, a type of SUV, around 3 p.m. west of Drivers Flat Road.

The other four people, who suffered moderate injuries, were in the other vehicle. Police said those four were a mother and her three children between the ages of 11-15.
