Trucker in I-80 Vallejo crash says he fell asleep

The driver of a truck that crashed Tuesday morning in Vallejo, closing all westbound lanes of Interstate 80 for four hours, told investigators that he fell asleep, authorities said.

All lanes reopened about 7:15 a.m. after crews removed the 2012 International Enterprise[1] rent-a-truck that was full of FedEx packages, the California Highway Patrol said.

24-year-old Jesus Oseguera of Sacramento told police he fell asleep at the wheel while driving a rent-a-truck carrying FedEx packages Tuesday morning. The incident occured on Interstate 80 near Hunter Hill rest area around 3:10 a.m. when Oseguera nodded off and almost hit the back of another truck. He swerved, causing his truck to overturn. Oseguera climbed out of the truck and suffered neck and leg pain. Police ruled out alcohol and drugs as factors in the crash.

What’s different about a truck accident? Crashes involving trucks are more challenging than most car accident cases.  The damage and injuries are usually very serious due to the extreme force of a collision with a huge truck. In addition, there is often more than one business or person responsible when a truck causes an accident.  You can read more about truck accident cases here.
