According to Hubbard, a pit bull that was riding in Martinez's Lincoln was ejected from the car on impact and suffered serious injuries.
At about 8:50pm, Martinez was driving a Lincoln Town Car west on Carob Street when investigators believe he crossed the double-yellow line into oncoming traffic and struck a pickup truck head-on. The collision left Martinez dead at the scene, and sent the family in the pickup truck, which included a man, woman, and infant, to the hospital via helicopter. A dog that was in Martinez's car was thrown from the vehicle and seriously injured. It has been helped by Hesperia Animal Control.
