A 62-year-old woman died in an automobile accident early Thursday morning on the Route 210 Freeway, west of Interstate 15, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At about 12:37 a.m., the unidentified woman was driving her 2003 Mitsubishi Montero eastbound on the 210 in the No. 2 lane at an undetermined speed, the CHP said.

For unknown reasons, the woman lost control of her vehicle, which spun out within the traffic lanes and subsequently overturned onto its left side.

The vehicle continued to slide across the right shoulder area, where it collided with the metal guardrail and overturned onto its roof. The vehicle came to rest on its roof on the right shoulder, partially blocking the No. 3 lane.

The driver succumbed to major blunt force trauma to her head area and was pronounced dead by a Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department medic at 1:10 a.m.

The driver had been properly restrained by her seat belt and alcohol was not believed to have been a factor in the crash, the CHP said.
