Curtiss Allen Welch, 52, killed in single car accident on June 14 on East J Street in Chula Vista.

A man who died over the weekend in a solo car crash in Chula Vista was identified Monday as 52-year-old Curtiss Allen Welch, officials with the Medical Examiner’s Office said.

Welch, of Chula Vista, was heading east on East J Street Saturday about 4:15 p.m. at high speed when for unknown reasons he lost control of his Nissan 300Z, Chula Vista police said.

The car jumped the sidewalk and crashed into a garage at the corner of Carla Avenue where it ended up in the back yard.

Welsh died at the scene.

Investigators said he may have suffered a medical condition prior to the crash.

His cause of death has not yet been determined.
