Deadly wrong-way crash on I-5 near Pacific Beach

The California Highway Patrol was investigating a fatal crash that closed all lanes on northbound Interstate 5 in Pacific Beach.

Witnesses reported a bystander, possibly a tow truck driver in the area, tried to extinguish some of the flames with a fire extinguisher, the CHP said. Firefighters got there shortly after and doused the wrecked vehicles. 

One Person Killed in Bay Park Crash

The driver of a black Kia died in the collision.

A woman in a Mitsubishi Eclipse suffered major injures and she was extricated from the vehicle.

Preet Sheth was driving a midsize sedan south in the northbound freeway lanes. He stopped the car near the Grand/Garnet Avenue exit and shut off the lights just before it was struck head-on by an oncoming car around 10:15 p.m. Friday, according to the county Medical Examiner’s Office and the California Highway Patrol.
