The collision involved an SUV and big rig, which overturned while swerving to avoid the motorcyclist, CHP said.
27-year-old Andre Bayati was driving a motorcycle west on I-80 when, for reasons unknown, he fell off of his vehicle and was struck by a westbound SUV, which then crashed and was destroyed. A westbound semi-truck attempted to avoid the wreck and ended up rolling onto its side. Bayati was pronounced dead at the scene, but the drivers of the other vehicles sustained only minor injuries. Investigation continues to determine what caused Bayati to fall from his bike, such as if he just lost control or was hit by another vehicle; check back for updates.
