Mountain lion struck, killed by car in Forestville

A mountain lion was struck and killed early Tuesday morning on River Road in Forestville in what a state Fish and Wildlife spokesman said was a none-to-rare occurrence. He weighed an estimated 85 to 100 pounds and appeared to have been healthy before being struck, Hughan said. The mountain lion collected from River Road was being shipped to the Fish and Wildlife forensic lab in Rancho Cordova in the event it was determined a post-mortem exam, or necropsy, was needed, Hughan said. A responding warden found the dead beast near Wohler Road in Forestville. The male cougar was reported dead in the road by an anonymous call to a Fish and Wildlife dispatcher at around 7:45 a.m., agency spokesman Andrew Hughan said.
