According to the California Highway Patrol, Caudill drove her 1999 Volvo sedan the wrong way for a full five miles before crashing around 12:30 a.m. near Thornton Avenue.

Motorist who died going wrong way on I-880 identified

Caudill died, and the three occupants of the truck, including the driver, a 26-year-old East Palo Alto man, suffered major injuries.
Police recieved report of someone going north in the southbound lanes of I-880 at about 12:30am, and shortly thereafter a report of a crash on that road. Investigators have determined that a 22-year-old woman was driving the wrong way on I-880 and collided head-on with a pickup truck. The collision caused the woman's car to break in half and catch fire, as well as trap the woman inside the car. Unfortunately the fire could not be put out and the woman was not rescued in time, eventually dying at the scene. Three occupants of the pickup truck sustained significant injuries, but were fortunate that their vehicle did not also catch fire from being close to the other burning car. This accident is still under investigation, and we will add more details as information becomes available.
