Man thrown from pickup in fatal Napa County crash(link is external)

Early Monday a Napa man died after he lost control of his pickup and was thrown from the vehicle as it rolled off of a Napa County highway, the CHP said. He’d been headed south on Highway 221, south of Kaiser Road, when his 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup left the roadway.

How fast the driver was going and what caused him to lose control remained under investigation, the CHP said. The man, whose name wasn’t released pending notification of his family, hadn’t been wearing a seat belt, according to the CHP. He died at the scene. The truck completely flipped and landed on its wheels about 100 feet from the highway.

California Highway Patrol officials are investigating a fatal traffic accident Monday morning on Highway 221 in Napa. At 2:19 a.m., CHP officers responded to a report of a solo vehicle off the roadway, near the highway's southbound lanes, just south of Kaiser Road, according to the CHP. The vehicle was reported to be about 100 feet away from the roadway and facing the opposite direction, the CHP said. It's unclear if any other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The vehicle, a 2000 Chevy pickup truck, was going southbound at an unknown speed when for an unknown reason it left the roadway, overturning and ejecting the driver. The Napa County coroner identified the driver as Maurice Butler, who had addresses in both Napa and Vallejo.
