Amtrak train kills SUV driver in Oakland

The SUV was hit by the northbound Coast Starlight train near San Leandro and High streets about 10:05 p.m. Monday, Oakland police said. The driver died at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of his family.

Officials ID Man, 48, Killed in Crash with Amtrak Train

A man who was killed when an Amtrak train crashed into his vehicle in Oakland on Monday night has been identified by the Alameda County coroner’s bureau as 48-year-old Jeffrey Allan Funk of Oakley.
The circumstances surrounding the collision are under investigation. Amtrak spokeswoman Vernaé Graham said the 209 passengers and crew members were delayed for about five hours while traveling from Los Angeles to Seattle.
