An AC Transit bus was hit by a stolen car and slams into a home, missing a 3-month-old by just inches. People were trapped inside the bus trying to get free and the driver of the stolen car is still out on the loose.

Richmond Police Lt. Andre Hill said, "We briefly evacuated the area because of the gas leak, but since the area has been deemed habitable again and the residents should know that they are safe inside their homes."

After the crash, the driver of the stolen vehicle got out of the car and ran. Hill said officers are still searching for him, but they know his identity.

The driver of the stolen Honda learned he was being followed by police and sped up at about 6 p.m., police told the Contra-Costa Times. The AC Transit bus tried to get out of the way but clipped the car and smashed into the side of the house, police said.

RICHMOND POLICE IDENTIFY MAN ACCUSED OF CRASHING STOLEN CAR INTO BUS
Police are seeking the whereabouts of 24-year-old Richmond resident Richard Contreras who is suspected of driving a stolen vehicle that collided with an AC Transit bus and caused the bus to slam into a house, damage a gas line and injure at least 11 people in Richmond Friday evening, a police lieutenant said.
The bus was doing between 20-25 mph when it struck a house in Richmond around 5:30 p.m.Resident Ashley Ortega found her 3-month-old son sitting in his bouncy chair, in the living room, looking up at an AC Transit bus. The gas service line was severed and leaking. Meanwhile seven dazed and bloody passengers, including two children and a bus driver, were trying to escape the bus. Police say they arrested a juvenile male passenger, but his older brother Richard Contreras, the driver, got away on foot. Police are seeking the whereabouts of this man as he is currently on felony probation for multiple stolen vehicle offenses and misdemeanor evading.
