San Francisco police are investigating a horrific fatal accident on a busy street at Fisherman's Wharf that resulted in the tragic death of a two-year-old boy Friday afternoon.

Kayson Shelton, who was visiting San Francisco from Draper, Utah, with five members of his family, was playing outside their hotel on Jefferson Street when the boy climbed up on a large statue of a dolphin that was standing in from of Majestic Collection Art Gallery.

Capt. Joe McFadden of the Special Victims Unit, which is handling the investigation, says the boy wrapped his arms and legs around the heavy statue, causing it to become unbalanced and tip over. The boy's six-year-old sister tried to stop the fall, but the statue was too heavy.

It fell on the child who apparently sustained internal injuries. Unfortunately, when emergency personnel arrived, at first it did not appear that Shelton was seriously hurt. He was treated for a bloody nose and taken to San Francisco General Hospital.

But once he arrived at the hospital, McFadden says, "he went from bad to worse and was transferred to the emergency room." Shelton was pronounced dead at 3:40 p.m. Friday, about four hours after the accident.
