A wreck involving an RTD bus near the busy intersection of Santa Fe Boulevard and West Mississippi Avenue killed one person Tuesday morning, Denver Police confirmed.
Police said a Route 31 RTD bus was traveling southbound on Platte River Drive shortly after 1:30 a.m. when it struck a vehicle that was traveling westbound on Mississippi, killing one person. Police did not confirm if the person killed was aboard the bus or the vehicle as of early Tuesday morning.
There was a large amount of debris scattered across the intersection as of 5:15 a.m., as police investigated the scene in an effort to determine possible fault. Westbound Mississippi and southbound Platte River near the intersection were closed due to the that investigation, but reopened around 5:30 a.m.
Per standard RTD procedures, the driver of the bus will be tested for drugs and alcohol before police issue an official determination regarding fault in the accident.
A later report confirmed that the fatality was a male in the car, identified as Joseph Tracy, 61.
